Hodgkins is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,897 at the 2010 census, down from 2,134 at the 2000 census.
Hodgkins is located at 41°45′51″N 87°51′34″W / 41.76417°N 87.85944°W / 41.76417; -87.85944 (41.764181, −87.859384).
According to the 2010 census, Hodgkins has a total area of 2.634 square miles (6.82 km), of which 2.58 square miles (6.68 km) (or 97.95%) is land and 0.054 square miles (0.14 km) (or 2.05%) is water. It is located just over 3 miles (5 km) from Chicago’s western city limits.
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,134 people, 841 households, and 470 families residing in the village. The population density was 320.6/km² (829.7/mi²). There were 918 housing units at an average density of 137.9/km² (356.9/mi²). The racial makeup was 81.82% White, 0.14% African American, 0.47% Native American, 0.05% Asian, 16.26% from other races, and 1.27% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 43.72% of the population.
There were 841 households out of which 24.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.8% were married couples living together, 8.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 44.1% were non-families. 36.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.41.
The population was spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 12.1% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 20.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 123.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 124.4 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $36,090, and the median income for a family was $42,313. Males had a median income of $32,031 versus $26,683 for females. The per capita income for the village was $17,920. About 11.4% of families and 15.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 23.1% of those under age 18 and 3.9% of those age 65 or over.
